Why and how IELTS is very important for your Future Abroad

You may have seen the word IELTS quite often and many a time. Do you wonder what does it stands for? IELTS stands for ‘International English Language Testing System’

IELTS is a standardized exam to test the level of English language ability for study, immigration or work in foreign countries. IELTS is one of the major English-language tests in the world, others being the TOEFL, TOEIC, PTE:A, and OPI/OPIc.

Why choose IELTS?

You should choose IELTS because it is a standardized test developed by the world’s leading experts and the test evaluates your English skills – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

IELTS is a certification examination. The certificate is recognized as evidence of your proficiency in English language by more than 10,000 education and training providers all across the globe. IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian, Irish, New Zealand and US academic institutions and by various professional organizations across the world.

IELTS is the only Secure English Language Test approved by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for visa customers applying both outside and inside the UK. IELTS also is a valuable requirement for immigration to Australia, where TOEFL and Pearson Test of English Academic are also accepted and New Zealand. In Canada, IELTS, TEF, or CELPIP are accepted by the immigration authority.

What is the scoring system in IELTS?

All IELTS scores are between 0 and 9. You may also get 0.5 scores as well (for example, you may get 6.5 or 7.5). You will get a band score for each skill of English language (listening, reading, writing and speaking) and you will also get an overview band score. The overall band score is the average score of all the skills.

Who Administers IELTS?

IELTS is administered by British Council. The advantage of taking the test with British council is that they offer a number of test dates across many locations worldwide. They offer free resources and easy registration process with a stress-free environment.

How many times can you take IELTS?

IELTS test can be taken several times a year. If you are planning to study overseas, you should be writing the Academic IELTS test, whereas if you are planning to immigrate or work in a different country then you are required to take a general IELTS test.

There is no limit on how many times you can take the test.

How many people give the IELTS?

The number of IELTS tests grew to a record 3.5 million in 2018. In the 2017, over 3 million tests were taken in more than 140 countries, up from 2 million tests in 2012, 1.7 million tests in 2011 and 1.4 million tests in 2009. In 2007, IELTS administered more than one million tests in a single 12-month period for the first time ever, making it the world’s most popular English language test for higher education and immigration. The figure of number of people giving the IELTS is increasing every year.

What is a good IELTS score?

A good IELTS score for Academic IELTS is 6.6 or higher and for General IELTS is 5.5 or higher. An IELTS result or Test Report Form is issued to all test takers with a score from “band 1” (“non-user”) to “band 9” (“expert user”) and each institution sets a different threshold. Institutions are advised not to consider a report older than two years to be valid.
