Telugu students explore lesser known academic hotspots in foreign lands

“I moved here in 2022. I wanted to initially go to the US but that year, I saw the economies of all countries crumble. Besides, the competition was too high. That’s when I stumbled upon student groups and communities on social media platforms for education in Germany, Poland and Ireland. I did my research and with their help and through city-based consultants, I applied for science courses in these countries and finally settled with Poland,” said Chaitanya Krishna, a student of computer science in Warsaw. He added that the low cost of education and living was another factor that made him choose the country.

Countries like Malaysia are also an option for students. “I am pursuing my hospitality management course. Initially, understanding the local language was a challenge, although English is widely spoken. However, I have settled in now and also secured a few internships, which helped me build my profile,” said Aamna Mirza, who is studying in Kuala Lumpur.

Registered education consultancies confirm this trend and say how destinations like Taiwan are also “hot” now. “It offers a high standard of education, particularly in technology and engineering, along with a vibrant culture and relatively low tuition fees. The primary language is Mandarin Chinese, which can be a hurdle, though many universities offer programmes in English,” said Vandana Mahajan, founder, Futures Abroad, adding how as of 2024, “around 2,500 Indian students are pursuing courses in Taiwan, with a significant representation from AP and Telangana”. “They often take up engineering, computer science, and business management,” she added…
