All You Need To Know About Study Visa

Every country needs you to have a valid visa to study. Each country has their rules and regulations for study visa. Study visas can be for short- or long-term study. Read the complete article by Vandana Mahajan, Director, Futures Abroad. Futures Abroad is a leading education consultant in Dubai.

SHORT-TERM STUDY VISAS

Short term study visas are available to students who want to join courses that are up to six months long or who want to pursue English language courses whose duration are up to 11 months long.

LONG-TERM STUDY VISAS

US Study Visa:

The “F” visa is for academic studies. An F1 visa is issued to students who are attending an academic program or English Language Program. F1 visas are by far the most common form of international student visa in the U.S. F1 students must maintain the minimum course load for full-time student status.

UK Study Visa:

TIER 4 (GENERAL) STUDENT VISAS

If you are 16 or over and want to study at higher education level, you will need to apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa.

You need to wait until you have an offer from a university or college before applying for your Tier 4 (General) student visa. Your university or college will then be able to give you a document called a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS). To do this, your chosen institution needs to be approved by the UK government as a ‘licensed Tier 4 sponsor’.

Canada Study Visa

To study full time in Canada you need a study visa at the Embassy or Consulate of Canada in your home country. Canadian study visa is for additional years beyond the study period. If your degree or diploma is for 4 year, you will get an additional 3 year visa. You will need to have an acceptance letter from a DLI approved institution to apply for study visa.

German Study Visa

You will have to apply for the appropriate German Study VISA at the Embassy or Consulate of Germany in your country to enter and stay for the intended period in Germany. In case you will need to remain in the territory of Germany for more than 90 DAYS, or 3 MONTHS, you will be called to also get a Residence Permit early enough after the arrival in Germany.

Australia Study Visa

To study in Australia, you need to have an offer of admission from an accredited Australian university. Student visa allows you to travel in and out of Australia. You can work unto 40 hours every 2-week once your course starts. You can study up to 5 years on a study visa. The type of course and its length will determine the length of stay.

What’s a good time to apply for Visa?

Speaking of the appropriate time, there is no fixed period where you should make the visa application, but it is highly recommended to do it early enough in advance from your planned travel to your study destination.

Typically, 3 (three) months before the start of planned studies, worked suitably for many who already went through the same experience. It’s important to give yourself enough time to apply for visa.
